Privacy Policy

Ayla ("we", "the extension") is a browser extension that replaces your browser's new tab page. This policy explains what data Ayla uses, where it is stored and what choices you have. In short: Ayla works without an account, keeps your data in your browser, shows no ads, has no analytics or tracking, and never sells your data.

1. Data stored on your device

Your settings, main goal, tasks, notes, habits, focus statistics and achievements, favorite wallpapers, uploaded images, links, quotes and read-later list are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage). They never leave your device unless you sign in (see section 2). Uninstalling the extension deletes this local data.

2. Optional account and sync

Signing in is optional. You can sign in with email and password, Google, GitHub, Facebook or X. Sign-in is provided by Google Firebase Authentication. When you sign in, we receive your email address, display name and profile photo URL from the provider you choose. A copy of your settings, tasks, notes, habits, links, quotes, focus statistics, achievements, favorite wallpapers and read-later list is stored in Google Cloud Firestore so it appears on all your devices. Each account can only read and write its own data; nobody else, including other users, can access it. Uploaded images are not synced.

3. Calendar (optional)

If you connect Google Calendar, Ayla requests read-only access (calendar.readonly) to show your upcoming events in the calendar widget. If you connect a calendar via an iCal link, Ayla downloads that link. Events are stored only on your device, are not sent to us or anyone else, and your calendars are never changed. You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Widgets.

Ayla's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. Location

To show weather, prayer times and local currency, Ayla uses your browser's location (only if you allow it) or an approximate city based on your IP address. The location is used to request this information and is stored only on your device. You can turn automatic location off and choose a city manually.

5. Site blocking and focus

Site blocking works entirely inside your browser using the sites you add to the list. Ayla does not read or collect your browsing history. Attempts to open a blocked site during a focus session are counted on your device only.

6. Services Ayla connects to

To provide its features, Ayla requests public information from the following services. These requests do not include your account data.

7. What we don't do

• We don't show ads and don't use analytics or tracking.
• We don't sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or any other purpose.
• We don't use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

8. Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time: Settings → Account → Delete account. Your account is then kept for 30 days, so you can restore it simply by signing in again. After 30 days the data saved in your account is permanently deleted. See how to delete your data. Uninstalling the extension removes the data stored on your device.

9. Children

Ayla is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above. Significant changes will also be announced in the extension.
